The Gordon Highlanders Officer's Victorian sporran cantle
A superb gilt and hallmarked silver sporran cantle bearing assaye marks for Edinburgh 1885 and impressed with that very exclusive manufacturer of that period "T.K.Ebbutt" from Edinburgh. Ebutt's were very selective producing marvellous items such as Regimental Sgian Dubh. The name is still in use today but unfortunately not connected with the Victorian masters.
6 inches in width and 3 inches in depth, the excellent gilt background with etched thistles surmounted by the Silver badge
with assaye marks at the foot of the two thistles.
To the rear 3 original screw posts,2 with nuts and 2 brass nuts secure the front silver badge device.
A very nice part is the impressed makers mark on the top side of the cantle rim"T.K.EBBUTT EDINBURGH"
