The Highland Infantry Volunteer Officer's Victorian plaid brooch. A large,heavily silvered/ummarked silver quoit set with a superb wreath of Thistles to the centre of which is a glengarry style device. A curled bugle with the initials "HLI" in the centre,above a blank scroll with the elephant below. The Crown at the top of the cut star,all in gilt. To the rear 2 screw posts and nuts secure the badge device and another 4 screw posts secure the thistle wreath device. Excellent original pin back.
This brooch was worn between 1898 and 1908 by the 1st/2nd Bns and from 1908-1916 by the 5th,7th and 8th Bns.
