The Glasgow Yeomanry Cavalry Officer's dirk belt clasp
This is an extremely rare item,comprising; a 2.5 inches wide by 2 inches in height, seeded gilt rectangular plate with burnished edges. In the middle of the plate is mounted an excellent wreath of thistles joined together at the top with an early Victorian Crown,to the voided centre are the letters"G" "Y" "C"
To the rear the fixed loop and adjoining loop are both present.
2 brass pins secure the front silver device.
This unit was formed in 1848 and provided an escort for Queen Victoria when she visited Glasgow in 1849.
The Corps was on active service during The Boer War as part of the 6th(Scottish) Bn of Imperial Yeomanry.
During WW1 They had 3 squadrons,2 of which served on the western front and the other at Gallipoli and Palestine.
