The Black Watch(Royal Highlanders) Officer's Victorian silver Plaid Brooch A most superb example of an Officer's Victorian Hallmarked Silver Plaid Brooch.
A 3.75ins Diameter burnished silver quoit bearing an etched decoration around the edge,To the centre a superb wreath of thistles in high relief surrounding StAndrew with The Cross.
To the rear,the front devices are secured by 5 silver screw posts and nuts and with a very substantial silver pinback.
Between the 2 nuts at the bottom of the quoit are the Assaye marks for Edinburgh in the year of 1883. and with an impressed
suppliers tablet"R.&H.B.KIRKWOOD 66&68 Thistle street
EDINBURGH"
The initials of the original owner have been scratched at the top of the quoit.
Only one set of initials matched those on the service rolls of that period,a one Lt Col Harry Bramley.
Harry Bramley enlisted in 1883(same year as his PB)
Promoted Lieutenant 1884
Promoted Captain 1892
served as Deputy Assistant Adjudant in 1900
Retired in 1910
re-enlisted in 1914 at the outbreak of war
Commanded 12th Labour Battalion throughout the war
Died in 1926 at Sandgate Kent
