The Black Watch(Royal Highlanders) Officer's Victorian silver Plaid Brooch A silver quoit of 3.75inches in width bearing an engraved decoration. A superb wreath of thistles surrounds St Andrew and The Cross. To the rear a strong original pin and with the front device secured by 5 screw posts and nuts. Engraved at the top are the Officer,s details "Captain Cecil Eykyn"

"died 8th Feby 1900" A most prestigious Brooch,named to an Officer of the 2nd Bn who died of wounds received at the battle of Koodoosberg 7th February 1900. He had served with his Battalion in the Kimberly relief Column and was present at the battle of Magersfontein.
Captain Cecil Eykn was born on 5th June 1867,he was educated at Harrow and entered The Royal Highlanders from the 3rd Bn KOYLI in july 1889.Promoted to Lieutenant in January 1891 and Captain in 1898.
Capt Ekyn is listed on the Cambridgshire roll of Honour
The brooch bears a makers mark of "H.C & Co" and Hallmarks for Edinburgh 1880.....yahoo !
